HIE invests £1m in Arnish yard on Lewis

Steel rolling equipment has been imported from Italy to a manufacturing yard on Lewis in the Western Isles.

The machinery forms part of £2.9m-worth of investment Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) plans to put into the site at Arnish, near Stornoway.

HIE said the rolling equipment was key to efforts to upgrade a production line at the yard used by Fife-based company BiFab.

The firm is manufacturing marine renewable energy devices.

Last year, a huge fabrication building at Arnish was re-clad at a cost of £3m.

HIE awarded the work to Rok but the firm later collapsed. Hertfordshire-based Willmot Dixon completed the project.
