Funding secured for Inverness Town Steeple work

Historic Scotland is supporting the restoration of a city's landmark steeple with a £241,750 grant.

Work is already underway to repair and restore the stonework of Inverness Town Steeple on the corner of Church Street and Bridge Street.

The tower's bells and clock face are also to be conserved.

Built in the 1790s, the steeple required repairs in 1816 after it was twisted during an earthquake. More recently it was damaged by high winds.
