London 2012: Sailings to get Hebrides fish to market

Extra ferry sailings between the Western Isles and Skye are to be provided during London 2012.

The action is being taken to give suppliers of local produce more time to negotiate Olympic security measures as they head to south of England markets.

Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne will run the additional services between Lochmaddy on North Uist and Uig on Skye from 23 July-5 September.

Western Isles Fishermen's Association sought the extra sailings.

The organisation had concerns that delays would affect the freshness of catches reaching markets.
