Toilet flush bags handed out in west Highlands

Thousands of Save-a-Flush bags have been handed out to households in parts of the Highlands and Western Isles in an effort to conserve water supplies.

The bags hold crystals which expand once placed in toilet cisterns.

Scottish Water said the bags saved one litre of water every time a toilet was flushed.

The company has thanked people in the west Highlands and isles for their efforts so far to help conserve supplies during a long dry spell.

Scottish Water said supplies remained below normal levels, despite some recent rainfall.

It has been urging caution over water use since June.
