Seagull shot with crossbow bolt in Inverness

A young herring gull has been shot with a crossbow bolt in Inverness.

The Scottish SPCA said the bird's injuries were so severe that it had to be humanely killed to end its suffering.

SSPCA chief inspector Iain Allan said the gull appeared to have been shot through the neck at close range.

The incident was reported to the SSPCA on Tuesday morning and the charity's staff found the bird in Mile End Place in Charleston.

The SSPCA has appealed for information.
