Police to raise Inverness city centre presence

Police will increase their presence in Inverness city centre during the day following concerns about crime, litter louts and anti-social behaviour.

Northern Constabulary agreed to take the action following discussions with Highland Council and business organisation Inverness BID.

Ch Insp Graeme Murdoch has described the move as a "natural extension" of Operation Respect.

The safety campaign is run during the festive period.

It involves the police and organisations such as street pastors.

The decision to increase the day-time presence of police officers has been reported by Inverness BID.
