New searches on Skye for missing Fife man Oliver Smith

Further searches are being made on Skye for a missing hillwalker.

Police Scotland said Oliver Smith, 33, from Fife, had failed to return from the Bla Bheinn area of the Cuillins as planned over the weekend.

Searches involving the police, RAF and rescue teams were made of the area on Sunday and Monday.

Mountain rescue teams, police and search and rescue dogs and a coastguard rescue helicopter resumed the effort at 09:00.

Police have appealed for anyone who has seen Mr Smith to contact them.

He was described as being 5ft 7 in, of slim build with short brown hair and facial stubble. He wears glasses and was wearing khaki trousers, a black jacket, black hat and was carrying a small blue/grey rucksack.

He is understood to have been planning to climb Blaven then descend via Loch Coruisk and follow the coastal path to Elgol.
