Up to 100 Western Isles council staff in pay error

As many as 100 local authority workers on the Western Isles have been given the wrong pay.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said an audit had found that some staff had been underpaid and others paid too much.

A spokesman said the authority was working with staff and unions in assessing the situation.

Iain MacAulay, director of social and community services, said it was understandable that employees would be worried by the situation.

He added: "Any staff member who has any concerns should in the first instance contact their line manager or trade union representative."

Between 60 and 100 workers employed by social and community services were thought to be involved.
