A revamped historic property is to be officially reopened four years later than originally planned.

The work to refurbish Raasay House on Raasay, off Skye, was in its final stages when the property was almost destroyed by a fire in January 2009.

Rok, the project's construction firm, collapsed the following year and a new contractor had to be hired.

The revamp was completed earlier this year and the building will be reopened in a ceremony on Friday.

Charles Kennedy, Liberal Democrat MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber, has been asked to carry out the ribbon cutting duties.

He said: "All involved deserve immense gratitude and congratulations for not once but twice delivering the restoration of Raasay House.

"It now stands and will serve the community in its magnificent renewed condition. This is a truly inspirational development."

Managed by Raasay House Community Company (RHCC), the property offers holiday accommodation, cafe, bar, restaurant and an activity centre.

The sprawling 258-year-old mansion once belonged to the Clan MacLeod.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Big Lottery Fund Scotland and Historic Scotland funded the £4.5m revamp.

An event called the Big Weekend was held in July to mark the finish of the work.
