Expenses row councillor Alex MacLeod resigns
Highland Council's youngest member Alex MacLeod, who is facing allegations about his election expenses, has resigned.
Alex MacLeod was elected as a councillor in May when he was aged 19. He is now 21.
In December, he was reported to the procurator fiscal by police.
The report was in connection with alleged offences under the Representation of the People Act 1983 and related offences.
The Highland News and John O'Groats Journal report that Mr MacLeod had decided to step aside to concentrate on the legal matter.
A council spokesman said the local authority had received notice via e-mail of Mr MacLeod's intention to tender his resignation with immediate effect.
The spokesman said the council's focus would now be on organising a by-election, which must be held within three months.
Mr MacLeod had previously resigned from Highland Council's SNP group.
