Superbugs remain a challenge for NHS Highland, says report
Combating hospital superbugs remains a challenge for NHS Highland, according to a report to be considered later by its board members.
There was a "statistically significant" rise in cases of Clostridium difficile between July and September last year, according to the paper.
Figures for the end of 2013 suggested that rates of infection did fall, but were still above national targets.
The report said a working group had been set up to tackle the problem.
In the paper, the health board's consultant microbiologist Dr Jonty Mills said initial figures suggested that efforts to control another bug, MRSA, have had some success.
