Submarine device closed beach on Western Isles

A device used in training by Royal Navy submarine crews has been safely disposed of after its discovery led to a beach being cordoned off.

The submarine marker was found at Gress, near Stornoway, by a member of the public on Sunday morning.

Police cordoned off the area and asked people to stay away until the piece of equipment was disposed of.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team from Faslane carried out a controlled explosion on Monday.

The cordon has been removed.
