Coastguard search for elderly walker on Rum

A major search is being carried out for a missing elderly walker on one of Scotland's most remote islands.

The man was reported missing overnight on Rum.

Stornoway Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was launched just after 10:30. The Mallaig lifeboat is also involved, along with coastguards.

Rum, which is 16 miles from the mainland, is known as The Forbidden Isle because of its inaccessibility. It has a population of about 40.
