Man abused girls in Fort William, Inverness and Oban areas

A 45-year-old man has been found guilty of sexually abusing three girls.

Colin MacDonald was 11 years old when he targeted his first victim, who was 10, at an address in Fort William.

Over a six-year period, he also raped and abused her at locations in Inverness, where he also started assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

MacDonald, from Perth, also repeated abused a girl in the Oban area. He denied the charges and claimed he was a "victim of a conspiracy".

He was found guilty by a jury before judge Lord Jones at the High Court in Edinburgh.

One of the girls was assaulted on occasions between 1981 and 1987 and the others between 1981 and 1983 and 1988 and 1991.

MacDonald denied the charges, stating that his victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were guilty of conspiring against him.

Remanding MacDonald in custody, Lord Jones deferred sentence in order for the court to obtain reports about MacDonald's character.
