A woman who died after being hit on the head by a falling rock on Coire an t-Sneachda in the Cairngorm mountain range has been named by police.

Jane Marie Doole, 61, from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, had been climbing near the Pygmy Ridge on 2 September when she was struck.

She was among a group of six, climbing in pairs, when she was injured while making her descent.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and a Royal Navy helicopter attended.

A member of the rescue team said at the time that a large boulder may have been loosened by recent heavy rain.
