Man arrested after stolen police car in crash near Achnasheen

A 30-year-old man has been arrested after a stolen police car was involved in a two-vehicle crash in the Highlands on Thursday afternoon.

A woman had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters after the crash on the A832 at Achanalt near Achnasheen.

Earlier, a police officer was assaulted while trying to arrest a man in the Gorstan area near Garve.

A man was then said to have taken the police officer's car.

Police Scotland armed response officers were among emergency services personnel sent to the scene of the collision.

The force has appealed for witnesses to the incident in the Gorstan area.

A spokesman said a man had been seen acting suspiciously at about 13:28 on Thursday.

He said: "Police attended and an officer was allegedly assaulted while attempting to arrest a 30-year-old man, who then made off in a car.

"This vehicle was subsequently involved in a collision with another car in the Achanalt area at 14:09."

A report is being sent to the procurator fiscal.
