Fire in derelict building shuts Main Street in Tain

A street in Tain has been closed following a fire in a derelict building.

Firefighters were called to the property in the town's Lamington Street at about 11:20.

The fire has been brought under control, but police said nearby Main Street was likely to remain shut for some time.

Police Scotland said the closure was a matter of public safety and the situation would be reviewed at 17:00.

Firefighters from Tain, Inverness and Dornoch dealt with the blaze.

Station manager Ricky Dibble said: "On arrival crews were faced with a well-developed fire which was spreading to the roof space of the three-storey derelict property.

"We initially used four main jets and one hose reel jets to tackle the fire. We fought the fire externally due to the unsafe nature of the building."
