Preferred option for new hospital in Aviemore approved
The board of NHS Highland has given its backing to the preferred site for a new hospital to serve communities in Badenoch and Strathspey.
NHS Highland plans to build the new hospital at Aviemore Technology Park and close two small sites in Kingussie and Grantown on Spey.
The health board had considered 10 possible locations. The hospital could cost up to £15m to construct.
The proposals will be put to Scottish Ministers for approval.
NHS Highland said if the preferred option was approved planning for the new facilities and services would "begin in earnest".
A spokesperson said: "Significant work would still be required, including agreeing the specification and design of the new building, and purchasing a site.
"Current estimates are that construction might start around summer 2017 with possible occupation of the new facilities in December 2018."
