A community project in the Highlands is aiming to create a micro hydro scheme at a former water supply dam.

Sunart Community Renewables needs to raise £850,000 to build the scheme at Allt nan Cailleach in Strontian.

It has received £43,000 from SSE's Highland Sustainable Development Fund to cover the cost of employing a project manager.

Once completed, the hydro plant, using the former Scottish Water dam, could generate enough power for 100 homes.
