Inverness West Link: Council updates cost of new road

Highland Council has updated the estimated cost of its proposed Inverness West Link road.

The figure has increased from £36.6m to £43.3m.

The local authority said the new figure took into account inflation on the cost of its construction which has been scheduled to finish in 2020-21.

Planning permission for the route was issued last year, but a public inquiry has to be held before building work can begin.

Other projects are associated with the construction of the West Link, including the laying out of a new golf course, clubhouse and practise area for Torvean Golf Club at a cost of £7.4m.

Parts of its existing course lie on the route of the city's new West Link road.

A new sports hub and improvements to existing rugby pitches have also been proposed.

The new price for the road has pushed up the cost of the overall project to about £55m.
