An MP has written to the Lord Advocate of Scotland calling for a fatal accident inquiry over a crash involving two RAF Tornado jets which left three airmen dead.

The RAF Lossiemouth jets crashed over the Moray Firth off the Caithness coast in July 2012.

It recently emerged the aircraft did not have collision warning systems installed.

Moray SNP MP Angus Robertson said it strengthened the case for a FAI.

He said: "The families and loved ones of those involved in the fatal collision must get answers and an FAI is the best way of putting to an end this sorry saga."

Sqn Ldr Samuel Bailey, 36, Flt Lt Hywel Poole, 28, and Flt Lt Adam Sanders, 27, died.

Sqd Ldr Paul Evans survived but was badly injured.
