Displays of the Aurora Borealis on Tuesday night have been photographed over Scotland.
Lancaster University's AuroraWatch UK had earlier issued its second highest alert for sightings of the Northern Lights.
After dark, where the sky was clear, aurora hunters in Scotland came up trumps in places including Birsay on Orkney, and Cambusavie near Dornoch. Displays were also photographed elsewhere in the UK.
The Met Office said the aurora was the result of the biggest solar storm in 11 years.
