Latest avalanche forecasting season in Scotland ends
The latest Sportscotland Avalanche Information Service season comes to an end after recording 202 avalanches since December.
The latest Sportscotland Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) season has come to an end.
From December to mid-April, the service forecasts avalanche hazards on mountains in the Northern and Southern Cairngorms, Glen Coe, Lochaber and Torridon.
As well as giving warnings on avalanche risks, the SAIS forecasters also document weather conditions in the hills. These ice pancakes were photographed at Lochnagar.
The SAIS recorded 202 avalanches during its most recent season. In the previous season, the service recorded 351 snow slides.
