Snow and freezing temperatures have returned to parts of Scotland.

Inverness was among the places where heavy snow has been falling.

Driving conditions in parts of the city - including Cradlehall and Milton of Leys - were challenging.

Residents of Milton of Leys said an inch of hailstones fell before snow started falling, while in Cradlehall some drivers had to abandon their cars at the side of roads.

Traffic was very slow on the A9 between Daviot Brae just south of Inverness all the way to Drumochter due to the snow.

The chilly conditions follow a period of warm, dry and sunny weather.

Temperatures reached 20C in places including Inverness, Aboyne, Aviemore, Tyndrum and Glasgow last Wednesday.
