Man detained after assault and robbery in Inverness

A man has been detained after a woman and a man were assaulted and robbed by two men as they walked down a street in Inverness.

Police said the incident in Benula Road was not believed to have been random, but have increased patrols in the area.

The two men involved were thought to be in their 20s and stole money and an iPad. The attack happened at about 16:50 on Wednesday.

The woman suffered injuries to her face and the man injuries to his back.

Det Insp Mark Czerniakiewicz said: "We would like to reassure the community that as a result of this incident officers will be increasing patrols of the area.

"We do not believe this to be a random attack and are following a positive line of inquiry."

He added: "Police Scotland takes a zero tolerance approach to violent crime and will continue working with partner agencies and local communities to ensure residents are kept safe and perpetrators of such crimes are swiftly brought to justice."
