Baby loss support group for Western Isles

A support group for women who have lost babies, including in miscarriages or stillbirth, has been set up for the first time in the Western Isles.

Called Sèimh, it offers meetings in English and Gaelic at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway in Lewis.

Midwife Joanne Murray-Stewart said the group offered women a place where they could find support and share their experiences.

The meetings are open to women who have suffered recent and past losses.

Ms Murray-Stewart told BBC Radio nan Gàidheal that some of those involved had not spoken about their experiences aloud for more than 20 years.

She said: "I think there really is a need for a place where women can come and speak, in their own time and when they are ready, about their own personal experiences."
