Swastikas painted along Inverness canal path

Police are investigating after Swastika symbols were painted in several areas along a canal footpath in Inverness.

Silver/grey paint was used to make the symbols, and other markings, on the path next to the Muirton Basin.

They are thought to have appeared overnight and were reported to police at about 09:50 on Tuesday.

Ch Insp Colin Gough, of Police Scotland, appealed for witnesses and said officers were treating the vandalism "very seriously".

He said: "We are aware that these symbols can bear associations to hate crime.

"I'd appeal to anyone with any information that may assist our enquiry to make contact via 101."
