Radon monitoring required at Newtonmore and Carrbridge

Highland Council has said primary schools at Newtonmore and Carrbridge require monitoring for radon gas.

Radon is produced by the radioactive decay of rocks and soil. High levels are normally tackled by fitting ventilation equipment.

The local authority has been carrying out remedial works since last year at its schools, and also council houses.

It said that while most of this work has been successful, further monitoring was required at the two schools.

The precautionary monitoring will start after the summer holidays, the council said.
