Woman dies after being hit by car on Skye

A 21-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car on Skye.

The woman was hit by the vehicle on the A87 near the Sligachan Hotel at Sligachan at about 01:15. The male driver of the Vauxhall car involved was not injured.

The road at the scene of the accident was closed for several hours while police carried out an investigation.

The A87, the main road across the island, was fully reopened at about 10:15.

The closure affected travel between Sligachan and Sconser.

Police Scotland said its inquiries were continuing.
