Most of the Isle of Barra in the Western Isles has had no mobile phone service for more than three months.

Up to 90% of its islanders use EE's network, which has been affected by a fault.

The company has apologised for the inconvenience caused by "complex issues" and said it was trying to resolve the problem.

Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil has called on the mobile network provider to speed up the repairs.

In a statement, EE said was "sincerely sorry" for the problem affecting the service on Barra which required the replacement of "critical equipment".

The firm added that it was trying to deploy a temporary solution to restore the service.
