Police have appealed for witnesses after a cyclist was found lying on a road in Inverness and later died in hospital.

Emergency services were alerted to the cyclist at about 12:00 on Monday.

Police closed off Culduthel Road near St Ninian's Church while they investigated the incident.

A police spokesman said the man had taken ill and was taken to Raigmore Hospital where he died. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The spokesman said: "As part of inquiries to establish the circumstances, police are appealing to anyone who saw the man in the area or cycling nearby to make contact via 101.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and the man's next of kin have been informed. As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
