People living in Lochbroom in Wester Ross have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to pay for the construction of their own hydro-electric scheme.

They have reached their target of £900,000 to help finance the project at Lael, near Ullapool.

The money has been raised through a through a community shares issue.

Lochbroom Community Renewables hopes work can start on the scheme early next year and be ready to generate electricity later in 2017.

Water from the Allt a' Mhuilinn burn, which flows through woodland into the River Broom, would power the scheme.
