Hebridean festival to premiere film Vanishing Sail
A film about a disappearing skill of sail boat building in the West Indies is to be given its UK premiere at the Hebrides International Film Festival.
Many of those who started the tradition of boatbuilding in the Grenadines in the 19th Century were Scots who settled on the islands.
The documentary, Vanishing Sail, will open the festival on 14 September.
A flotilla of sailing boats will head into Stornoway Harbour to celebrate the screening.
The festival, being held for the third year and running until 17 September, will show films made on, and about, islands at venues on Lewis, Harris, Barra and the Uists.
The other films include The Islands and the Whales by Scottish filmmaker Mike Day and French/Danish animation Long Way North, which is set in the 19th Century and follows a young Russian girl's quest to find her grandfather at the North Pole.
