A woman has been charged following the death of another woman in Aberdeenshire, police have said.

The woman - believed to be in her early 60s - was found in a property on Greens Road, in Newmachar, on Monday evening.

Grampian Police said they were investigating the "suspicious" death, and that a 30-year-old female had been charged in connection with the incident.

The woman is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Forensic officers could be seen examining a phone box in the area on Tuesday, and the home and a nearby play park have also been cordoned off.

'Anything suspicious'

Det Insp Martin Dunn, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We appreciate that police activity in the area will be causing disruption to residents and I would like to thank local people for their patience and understanding.

"People should be assured that we are working to return the street to normality as soon as possible.

"Officers are conducting inquiries in the area at the moment which includes house-to-house inquiries and searches."

He added: "I would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Greens Road area of Newmachar to contact the police as soon as possible."

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
