A fatal accident inquiry into the deaths of a mother and two children in a crash is to be held.

Ann Copeland, 45, and daughters Ciara, seven, and Niamh, 10, died in the crash on the A92 in January 2008.

Police said at the time a spill of lubricating oil was a "significant factor" in the Inverbervie to Low North Water Bridge road accident.

The Crown Office said an FAI was now due to start at Stonehaven Sheriff Court on 1 December.

The family, who were travelling in a Citroen Saxo, were from the coastal village of Johnshaven in Aberdeenshire.

Barry Copeland, who had been calling for an FAI into the deaths of his wife and daughters, welcomed the news of the inquiry.
