An Aberdeen councillor facing embezzlement court proceedings has stepped down from some of his duties.

Scott Cassie, 60, and wife Moira, 58, were charged in court this week with offences between 1998 and last year.

The council said Mr Cassie has agreed it would be appropriate to stand down from council committees and working groups pending the outcome.

It follows police being asked last year to investigate the finances of Garthdee Community Council.

Mr Cassie will continue to serve as an independent councillor for the Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee ward.

Mr and Mrs Cassie made no plea at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday, they were bailed, and the case was continued.
