Nurses at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have been angered at cost-cutting proposals that could see them effectively work an extra shift each month.

NHS Grampian is asking them to take unpaid breaks, adding up to one extra 12-hour shift each month.

It is believed the move, which would affect about 240 staff, could save almost £400,000 a year.

The Royal College of Nursing hit out but the board said there would be no change to hours worked or pay.
