A man has been charged after a pedestrian was knocked down by a car in what was described as an attempted murder.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the man was struck at 0250 GMT on Monday on the city's Ann Street.

A 36-year-old man is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Grampian Police said: "This appears to have been a deliberate act and is being treated as an attempted murder."

The car involved in the incident was traced.

The force thanked the public for their help, and appealed for anyone who saw a small white car in the area at the time to contact them.

One-way Ann Street, off Hutcheon Street in the Rosemount area, was closed for several hours to allow a collision investigation to be carried out.
