Ellon mother jailed for £50,000 benefits fraud

An Aberdeenshire mother who fraudulently claimed benefits of more than £50,000 has been jailed.

Gillian Morris, 51, from Ellon, claimed she was a single mother, living in rented accommodation with no income.

However she was living with her husband in a jointly-owned home with access to a shared bank account.

She admitted housing, council tax and income support fraud over several years and was jailed for 11 months at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
