A young man died after a road crash in Moray in the early hours of the morning.

The accident happened at about 0400 GMT on Wednesday on the A98 on the stretch of road between Cullen and Portsoy.

Grampian Police confirmed a motorist in his late 20s died after the one-vehicle accident. He was believed to be from the Cullen area.

Collision investigation officers were sent to the scene and the road was closed until just before 1200 GMT.

Insp Scott Mann said: "I'm eager to speak to anyone who may have seen a black Kia Magentis being driven in Cullen or the surrounding area during the late evening of Tuesday or into the early hours of Wednesday.

"We have been in close contact with the family of the male involved and they are aware of his death. This is a tragic and extremely difficult period for them and my thoughts are with them at this time."
