Probe after bodies of couple found in Turriff fire

An investigation has been launched after the bodies of a couple were found following a house fire in Aberdeenshire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Tillyfar Gardens, Turriff, at about 1330 GMT on Sunday.

The couple - a man aged 69 and a 66-year-old woman - were discovered dead inside.

Grampian Police said the fire was not suspicious but have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

The couple have not yet been named.

A Grampian Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The fire was located in the kitchen area of the property and crews made the scene safe.

"Unfortunately, two residents of the property were found dead.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this fire and a joint fire investigation will be carried out by Grampian Police and Grampian Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause."
