Aberdeen City Council leader John Stewart 'assaulted'

Police are investigating after Aberdeen City Council leader John Stewart was allegedly assaulted in a pub.

The incident happened when Lib Dem Mr Stewart was having a drink in the Kirkgate Bar, close to the council's headquarters.

It is claimed he was confronted by a woman at about 2100 GMT in the Upperkirkgate venue.

A Grampian Police spokesman confirmed the force was investigating reports of an incident at the pub.

Mr Stewart declined to comment when contacted by BBC Scotland.
