Laser shone at rescue helicopter pilot in Orkney
Police are investigating an incident in which a powerful mini-laser was deliberately shone at the pilot of a coastguard rescue helicopter in Orkney.
The aircraft was taking part in an exercise in Kirkwall Bay on Wednesday evening involving the town's lifeboat and local coastguard teams.
The teams were carrying out tests on a new type of red laser-flare device.
But as it was being carried out a green laser was shone at the helicopter from the cathedral area of the town.
Orkney sector manager Ian Lindsay said the incident was extremely concerning.
