A man whose body was found in a house in Orkney after a "firearms incident" has been named.

James Gilmour, 66, known as Ray Gilmour, was found after police were called to the property in the Tankerness area on Monday.

An injured woman was later "safely removed" from the house in question, a Northern Constabulary spokesman said.

Officers then found Mr Gilmour's body in a bedroom.

Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

However, a full investigation into the incident is being carried out and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Kirkwall.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Balfour Hospital, Kirkwall, and was kept in overnight.
