Man dies in police custody in Aberdeen

The death of a man while in police custody in Aberdeen in the early hours is being investigated.

Grampian Police said 34-year-old Nicholas Wood, from Aberdeen, was being held at the force headquarters in Queen Street when he died.

He had been detained from an address in the Tillydrone area during Monday afternoon in connection with a "minor assault".

A force spokesman said the death was being treated as unexplained.

Next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
