Woman rescued after entering sea off Orkney

A woman has been rescued after being seen entering the waters off Orkney in the early hours of the morning.

An RNLI lifeboat member spotted the woman and attempted to stop her but she swam further into Longhope Bay.

The lifeboat was self-launched at 0050 BST and coastguard teams from Hoy took part in a coastline search.

The woman was located by the coastguard on a nearby beach and was taken by ambulance to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall with symptoms of hypothermia.
