Aberdeen man Hanratty jailed for stealing from uncle

A serial thief who stole property worth almost £50,000 from his uncle in Aberdeen has been jailed for 32 months.

William Hanratty, 28, of Aberdeen, admitted taking jewellery and money from the Anderson Drive home of his relative in two thefts.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Hanratty had an "appalling" criminal record but had apologised.

Sheriff Malcolm Garden said the public needed to be protected Hanratty and his "odious" crimes.
