Demand for offshore divers fell between 2009 and 2010, according to new figures.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) found the number of people working in offshore diving globally fell by at least 500.

The IMCA figures showed 4,000 divers employed by the 35 companies surveyed fell to 3,500 with 43 firms in the study.

The organisation said the fall could be the result of the economic climate.
