Relatives of a 16-month-old boy killed in a crash which left his mother critically injured and another driver dead have spoken of their devastation.

Callum Bruce, from the Alford area of Aberdeenshire, died after a two-car collision on the A944 Kingswells to Westhill road on Wednesday.

His mother, Fiona Black, was left in a critical condition.

The driver of the other car, a 77-year-old man, has also died in hospital, Grampian Police said.

Callum's mother's relatives, and those of Callum's father Martin Bruce, said the 16-month-old's memory would be treasured.

'Smiling face'

The Bruce and Black families said in a statement: "We the families are absolutely devastated by what has happened and are finding it very difficult to come to terms with losing our wonderful little boy.

"In particular, we will treasure the memory of him with his smiling face and his joyful excitement, especially when in the swimming pool.

"Meanwhile all our attention and thoughts continue with the focus on Fiona's fight for a full recovery.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support and condolences at this time."
