A "cowardly" man who threatened to rape a 71-year-old woman before robbing her in Moray has been jailed.

Ronald Green, 22, admitting attacking the woman in Dufftown before escaping with money in June this year.

The victim lived alone in an isolated farmhouse and the incident was said to have had a "considerable impact" on her.

Green was jailed for six years at the High Court in Dundee, with four years on licence after his release.

Lord Pentland branded Green's crime "despicable and cowardly" and also placed him on the sex offenders register for life.

The judge said of the attack in his sentencing statement: "It involved you terrorising an elderly lady who lived alone in a remote location.

"It seems likely that your victim will never recover fully from this.

"For a man of 22 you already have a troubling criminal record."

Green previously admitted the crime at the High Court in Edinburgh.
